Add dark mode support to the application

We need to implement a dark mode theme that users can toggle. This should:
- Support system preference detection
- Allow manual toggle via settings
- Persist user preference in localStorage
- Apply smooth transitions between themes

Great idea! I'd suggest using CSS variables for easy theme switching.
